Whether you’re running outside or just hitting the treadmill, good music can often make the difference between a rave run and a blown goal. That’s why we’re putting together 90-minute playlists each month chock-full of songs with enough of a beat to keep you moving. For even more tunes, check out our list of the best running songs.
Do you know what the secret to being a better long distance runner is? Sprinting. Do you know what the secret to being a better middle distance runner is? Sprinting. Do you know what the secret to being a better sprinter is? Lifting weights. (But obviously you need to be doing some sprinting as well.)
No matter what kind of a runner you are, mixing some speed workouts into your training will help you out. That’s because if you can get your body used to the higher heart rate that sprinting entails, then your body will think that those long slower runs are a piece of cake and won’t freak out so easily.
The tricky part for runners who prefer longer distances, however, is that they often don’t enjoy the high octane, gasping for air, heart-pumping fatigue that comes from a track workout. Run 15 miles on a Saturday morning? No problem. Run one mile worth of 100-meter sprints? No thanks. And yet, if you want a better marathon PR, it’s extremely helpful to start running 400-meter laps. So how do you keep motivated? Well perhaps with some sprinting songs.
This month rather than give you a playlist for jogging around the neighborhood, I’ve put together a playlist for sprinting. No slow songs. No moody odes. Just high energy techno music and fast-paced remixes to get your blood pumping.
Sprint around that track as fast as you can to these bops, leaving the joggers in your wake. You may be doubled over and sucking wind when you’re finished, but when your marathon time drops, you’ll be thanking us. So throw on some headphones and head to the track. It’s time to get sprinting.
