People here have always been into outdoor sports and staying fit. But running has boomed since Rio got picked to host the Olympics. I think most people are really excited for the games—we’re the first South American city to host them, and there’s a lot of pride about that. As far as running events in the Olympics, our best marathoners are Solonei Rocha da Silva [2:11:32] and Gilberto Silvestre Lopes [2:16:39]. To be honest, I don’t think the podium belongs to them. They are in a level below the top.
