  • Take almost $150 off our all-time favorite Apple running watch, the spec-heavy Apple Watch Ultra 2.
  • Save $120 on the more wallet-friendly Apple Watch Series 10, the latest model in the mainline Apple Watch collection.
  • The hobbyist-approved Apple Watch SE is also available for 32% off during the four-day event.

At this juncture, running watches are a necessity for most everyday runners, including both hobbyists and hardcore marathon athletes. The integrated technology of a running watch is far superior to its early-day predecessors, boasting bold display specs similar to those of an OLED TV and advanced metric tracking that keeps pace with the latest smart tech advancements. And like anything, all runners have their preferences for smartwatches, and chances are, if they’re already an Apple tech enthusiast, they’re not going to stray too far away from the robust line of Apple Watches, thanks to seamless connectivity, intuitive features, and easy-to-read display. And for those who've either resisted technology to the point of sheer stubbornness or want to upgrade your current Apple Watch digs, now is a great time to do so, courtesy of good ol’ Amazon.

Right now, some of our favorite Apple Watches are on sale up to 32 percent off through Prime Day, and, frankly, we’re a little jealous we didn’t wait until the e-tailer’s record-breaking four-day event to nab our own. From the feature-heavy Apple Ultra 2 to the sleek Apple Watch Series 10 to the minimalist-oriented Apple Watch SE, we’re seeing some pretty insane savings amid Amazon’s longest-ever Prime Day. If you’re looking to make a serious upgrade to your running gear lineup—and prefer the Apple approach to doing so—now’s the best time to score your favorite smartwatches on the cheap.

Editor’s Note July 10, 2025: Not much has changed on Day 3 of Prime Day, although you can now nab the Apple Watch Ultra 2 for around $650 in select styles. One slight alteration, though: the last-gen Apple Watch 9 is now only available through Amazon Renewed. The good news? It is now at a much steeper discount, and just a hair over $200.

Best for Hobbyist Runners

Apple Watch Series 10

On Sale
Watch Series 10

The Apple Watch Series 10 is an almost perfect option for the hobbyist runner. It boasts a robust 64 GB of storage, as well as a range of runner-friendly features, including advanced sleep insights such as overnight heart and respiratory rate tracking, REM sleep tracking, and more. It even features depth and water temperature sensors for aquatic adventures and post-run recovery workouts.

We also can’t help but love the durability of the Apple Watch Series 10, which rivals some of the latest rugged Garmin builds. It's both crack-resistant and IP6X-certified for dust resistance, as well as water-resistant up to 50m. With a larger display of up to 30 percent more screen area and a lightweight, comfortable design, it’s a great everyday watch that you won’t even notice you're wearing. The Prime Day savings also help—this is now at the lowest price we've ever seen on Amazon.

Best Overall Apple Watch

Apple Watch Ultra 2

Watch Ultra 2

If you’re willing to shell out a pretty penny for an editor-tested, editor-approved spec-heavy Apple Watch, we couldn't recommend the Ultra 2 enough—especially at this price. It improves upon the Apple Watch Series 10, specifically in terms of GPS, and is a must-have for Apple enthusiasts who value high-quality, granular metrics.

Senior Commerce Editor Cat Bowen praises the advanced features of the Ultra 2, particularly in comparison to the Series 10 and the previous iteration of the Ultra. “The Apple Watch Ultra 2 offers a great blend of convenience and function, with improved GPS and battery life that give it a big leg up over the Apple Watch Series 10 for all kinds of athletes,” Bowen explained. “Like its predecessor, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 features better GPS tracking than the standard Apple Watch Series 10.”

While this is undoubtedly a pricier option at nearly double the amount of the Series 10, it’s worth its weight in gold. Or, in this case, advanced tracking metrics.

Best for Beginners

Apple Watch SE (2nd Gen)

Watch SE (2nd Gen)

The Apple Watch SE might not have as deep a pool of metrics as the Ultra 2—or even the Series 10, for that matter—but it’s a fantastic option for first-time Apple Watch users and novice runners alike.

Despite its lack of bells and whistles, at least when compared to the first two models, it still receives high marks across the board, thanks to its ability to track heart rate, iPhone compatibility, sleep monitoring, and sleek, uncompromising design. This is a versatile model that still manages to hone in on a slew of health metrics and for nearly $120 off its already-reasonable $250 price tag. It’s the perfect piece of running gear for young runners and Apple aficionados everywhere.

Best Refurbished Option

Apple Watch Ultra (Renewed Premium)

Watch Ultra (Renewed Premium)

The 2022 model of the Apple Watch Ultra still holds up some years later. So if you're not amped to spend over $600 (which is still an excellent deal, by the way), you can always opt for the older model of our all-time favorite Apple Watch.

The OG Ultra is both rugged, deceptively light, and a perfect option for all types of endurance athletes—runners included. The case is made of premium-grade corrosion-resistant titanium with up to 100m of water resistance. We also love the larger digital crown and easily accessible buttons for quick and intuitive programming and subsequent use.

One thing to note, though—this model is Renewed, which is Amazon's way of saying it's refurbished. We wouldn't place too much stock into that in this case, though, as it’s labeled "Renewed Premium," which is essentially an open-box return. Chances are, this device hasn't even been used yet. Either way, it’s a fantastically thrifty and inexpensive way to nab what is essentially a brand-new Apple Ultra Watch for under $400.

Best Older Model

Apple Watch Series 9

Watch Series 9

If you don’t mind (or for whatever reason, prefer) an older model, the Apple Watch Series 9 is on sale for the first time in a long time. Although it’s an older iteration of the Apple Watch Series 10, it still packs a punch in its own right.

For starters, the advanced S9 chip helps power an ultra-bright display as well as a seamless way to quickly and easily interact with your watch without touching the screen. Reliable sleep tracking of REM, Core, and Deep sleep allows you to perfect your sleep schedule ahead of big runs, while innovative safety features, such as fall and crash detection, provide peace of mind when solo running in remote and/or treacherous areas.

This customizable, ultra-reliable Apple Watch is currently only $211, making it the perfect time to snag an oldie but a goodie.

Editor's Note: This Apple Watch 9 is now only available through Amazon Renewed. Much like the Ultra, this is Premium Renewed, so it's as close to brand new as you can get. Getting it close to $200 is virtually unheard of.
