Google just dropped its Spring Try Guide, a list of top searched-for and trending products from October 2023 through January 2024. Included picks span a wide range of categories that are ideal for adding to your cart as we head towards spring weather.

Notably, some of our favorite running shoes from brands like Hoka, Brooks, and On made the cut. Snagging a new pair of runners can be a game-changer after your shoes likely took a beating during the winter months, so we’re breaking down everything you need to know about the top running shoes from the list to help you decide on the right pair for you.

According to Google, Nike was the top-searched sneaker brand from October 2023 to January 2024, and while most shoppers looked for lifestyle shoes like the Nike Air Max, we’ve pulled some runners from our testing for you to shop, too. Search interest for On reached an all-time high twice in 2023, so it’s no surprise a pair from the popular brand made the list.

Whether you’re logging miles on the treadmill, hitting the trail, or training, these are the top trending running shoes to consider investing in this season, according to Google.

Great for Runners of Any Level

Brooks Ghost 15

Ghost 15

Our top Brooks shoe, the Ghost lineup has continued to improve with each new model. The Ghost 15 is a standard neutral trainer, making it a great option for beginner and advanced runners alike. It’s a tried-and-true daily trainer great for short to mid-distance runs. It’s not the most cushioned shoe on this list, and while the heel drop might feel high for some, the sneaker does a great job absorbing impact.

It’s an all-around comfortable shoe, with padding around the collar, a relatively wide midfoot, and a breathable mesh upper.

Great for Daily Training

Hoka Clifton 9

Clifton 9

Slip into the Clifton 9s for your easy jogs or marathon base-building long runs. The shoes have a rocker profile and soft feel (which can take a bit of getting used to) and offer Hoka’s signature cushioned feel. The new compression-molded EVA foam is tuned for responsiveness and is lighter than the Clifton 8s by 0.14 ounces.

We wouldn’t recommend this pair for speed work, but it’s a workhorse shoe that you can lace up for your everyday runs. While the cushioning looks clunky, our testers found the shoe was fairly streamlined and lightweight.

Great for Cross-Training

On Cloud X 3

Cloud X 3

Cross-training is essential in your workout routine, and we’re fans of the Cloud X 3s for days you’re doing footwork, sprints, and even weight workouts. The design features On’s CloudTec outsole, which is a flexible grid of hollow foam pods. The pods work together to provide cushion upon impact and give support throughout runs, sprints, jumps, and beyond.

Don’t let the unique design fool you—the shoes are lightweight and comfortable whether you're walking or running. You won’t want to lace these up for your long runs, but they’re a great everyday training shoe to add to your closet.

Great for Versatility

Nike Pegasus 40

Pegasus 40

The Pegasus 40s are another great pair for your everyday training, speed work, or longer run sessions. The shoes feature a redesigned mid-band that can accommodate varying arch heights. The popular shoe brand also added padding around the collar and redesigned the mesh upper to give the runners a more comfortable fit all around your foot.

The sneakers have enough springiness to keep you going for miles, and the smooth ride is ideal for runners of all levels. While the shoe doesn’t feature Nike's lightweight ZoomX foam, it’s still a streamlined pair of kicks.

Great For Long Runs

Nike Invincible 3

On Sale
Invincible 3

When you head out for your long run, you want to trust your shoe to carry you through all the miles. While Nike’s Invincible 3s don’t have a carbon plate, they do have a midsole packed with a generous amount of ZoomX foam for excellent shock absorption and springy return. The sole is wider at the forefoot, giving you added stability throughout your strides.

The runners also have a rocker shape to it that helps encourage smoother transitions. The Flyknit upper has breathability zones in high-heat areas to keep your feet cool from the start line to the finish line.
